WELCOME TO COLORADO TRAIL HORSE ADVENTURES!

Bring your own horse and ride on the Western Slope of Colorado.  It is sparsely populated compared to many parts of the state, and it is a veritable playground full of natural wonders and wildlife.  We can count among those wonders the deepest canyons, the highest peaks, the largest body of water, and the largest mesa craddling over 200 lakes.  You will experience first hand the rugged beauty, the solitude, the wildlife and the natural diversity on the trails in Southwest Colorado.  Trails that plunge into deeply eroded red rock canyons or trails that climb through thick forests skirting the towering peaks and colorful alpine meadows. Trails that reveal a glimpse of those who have passed before us--remnants of pioneer cabins, rock art of ancient native peoples, and herds of wild mustangs, desert bighorn sheep, and elk.  I'll be your personal guide taking you on the most spectacular and interesting trails while sharing my knowledge of the history, flora, and fauna of the area. This will allow you to get the most out of your vacation days.  Because the trail rides are for small groups (4 to 10 riders), outings are tailored to each rider's needs while maximizing the quality of the wilderness experience.  Care is taken to make sure all riders and horses are safe and comfortable with the terrain.

Come ride with me, Sky Baldwin, and experience riding in southwest Colorado up close and personal.  I have been riding in the Rocky Mountains since 5 years of age, tagging along with my father as he delivered supplies to fire lookouts.  I have spent a lot of time in the mountains from Canada to Arizona, and Colorado is the most spectacular.  While trail riding is where I find my spirit renewed, I am also trained in equine massage, an active dressage competitor, and train my own horses.  I recommend that you consider extending your stay a few days to experience the many treasures in our area such as the Black Canyon National Park, Colorado National Monument, Telluride and Ouray historical mountain towns, and the Grand Mesa.  Previous riders said they wished they had planned to spend some days sightseeing in the area.

     ADVENTURE RIDE WEEKENDS

Colorado Trail Horse Adventure weekends are scheduled from April through October on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  We offer 3 kinds of trips: 1) Day rides, 2) Campouts, 3) Wilderness lodge trips.  The trips go to 4 different destinations: 1) Canyon country rides, 2) Rides in the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range, 3) High alpine mountain rides, 4) Riding into a rustic wilderness lodge where the group spends each night and rides out during the day into the high alpine country around the lodge.

The weekend CAMPOUT adventures are set up for those people with their own campers, and we all camp in a campground riding out of camp each day.  On the weekend DAY RIDES we return to my barn each night where the horses are boarded, and you are on your own for lodging, breakfasts, and dinners. Lunches are provided.  On the WILDERNESS LODGE trips we ride into a wilderness lodge to base all of our activities out of there for the entire 3 days.  The lodge is a beautiful, rustic, hand-crafted log building sitting at 11,000 feet elevation in the San Juan Mountains near Telluride. The trails traverse mountain meadows and climb the adjacent peaks. We can also create custom trail rides to suit your party's needs and interests--call us to discuss it.

    RESERVATIONS AND QUESTIONS

Call (970) 361-1870 for more information and to make reservations. Since we keep these rides small and personal, they fill up fast.  A minimum of 4 riders are needed for each weekend trip.  Reservations are required 4 weeks in advance and a non-refundable $100 deposit must be made to hold your spot, however the deposit can be used on subsequent rides that year if necessary.  Montrose is the closest town, and we'd be happy to recommend hotels and restaurants to meet your personal needs and budget.
